After-School Care

General Program and Staff

The After-School Care Program at John I. Smith K-8 Center has a variety of activities including homework assistance, indoor and outdoor games, as well as arts and crafts. All activity leaders receive a minimum of 45 hours of childcare training. The Program Manager monitors the program and the Activity Leaders who have been screened by Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The Principal is ultimately in charge of overseeing the entire program.

Program Components

  • After-School Care: Offered for all grade levels (PK-8th grade) Monday - Friday from 1:50 p.m./3:05 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • 4 Day Mini-Care: Offered for our Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten & 1st grade students on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 1:50 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. This program is especially designed for those children who need to wait for their older brothers or sisters who dismiss 3:05 p.m. This program is not offered on Wednesdays.
  • 5 Day Mini-Care:  Offered for our 2nd - 8th grade students on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays  from 3:05 p.m. to 4:05 p.m.; Wednesdays from 1:50 p.m. to 2:50 p.m.
